The Assimilation series began with a piece commissioned for Chicago Artist Month by the Swedish American Museum as part of an exhibition of work by artists inspired by piece from the museum's collection.
Assimilation: Two Artifacts was inspired by a large well cared for wooden sled, and two small handmade Dahl horse earrings. It addresses the incomplete assimilation of personal identity into group identity, particularly during the migration or immigration process.
Further Assimilation pieces investigate the identity and the partial loss of identity as elements attempt to integrate into a whole, both in drawing and metaphorically.
